Product Engineer

Position Summary

  • Product Engineer is responsible for new product development and improving existing products, part number launches, BOM creation, troubleshooting warranty returns, implementing product and process improvements, help resolve production line problems, and productivity projects. Our facility remanufactures a large variety (over 1000 different SKUs) of automotive and natural gas turbochargers and will provide a great opportunity for someone who is interested in getting into automotive or energy industry careers.                                        

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Evaluate turbochargers from the market and create BOMs.
  • Conduct product viability studies from a technical and financial perspective.
  • Main point of contact for the customer for all engineering related tasks.
  • Work with Purchasing team on sourcing all the components in alignment with the project plan.
  • Troubleshoot warranty returns and identify root causes to failure modes and help resolve these issues through design or process improvements using the 8D process.
  • Design and analyse replacement parts as needed and help design tooling fixtures for dis-assembly and assembly.
  • Create engineering specifications and communicate that to our vendors and ensure product meets specifications by conducting PPAP.
  • Assist in creating DFMEA documents and reviewing PFMEA documents and ensure alignment.
  • Coordinates with cross-functional teams to determine problems and implement solutions.
  • Provides technical assistance as needed by internal customers.
  • Draft and publish engineering reports.
  • Effective communication within the team, other functional teams, and leadership.
  • Assist more senior members in the group with projects and tasks.
  • Track and execute cost reduction for materials, process, and product improvements.

 

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Excellent team player who can adjust to the changing business needs and demands.
  • Good communication and presentation skills.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Some exposure to harsh conditions—such as: dust, fumes, noise, and varying temperatures—for short periods of time is possible. This employee will be required to demonstrate continued knowledge of Haz/Com regulations and requirements. All employees are required to follow safety standards and wear all personal protective equipment in designated areas.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Sitting 20%, standing/walking 80%. Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds is required. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential function of this job. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, use hands and fingers to handle or feel; talk and hear.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s/master’s degree in engineering, preferably Mechanical or Electrical Engineering major.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Creo, or other CAD software preferred.
  • Statistical Data analysis using Minitab is a plus.
  • Basic programming skills using LabView, or Python is a plus.
  • Basic Instrumentation skills is a plus.
  • Machining (Additive or Traditional) working knowledge is a plus.
  • Knowledge of workflows, ergonomics, tooling, and lean manufacturing, either on-the-job or through academic projects.

 

Preferred experience

  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience.
  • Project management experience.
  • Experienced with driving data-based decision-making via the use of industry standard problem resolution techniques.
  • Self-starter and motivated.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to successfully manage several tasks or projects at once.
  • Excellent MS Office suite skills.
  • Ability to think 'outside the box' and develop clever, unique solutions to problems.
  • Ability to adapt to ever changing work requirements, tasks, and environments.
