Quality Engineer

Position Summary

Quality Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing quality assurance processes and procedures for OE automotive manufacturing. The Quality Engineer works closely with production and engineering teams to ensure that the highest standards of quality are achieved and maintained. The Quality Engineer designs and implements inspection and testing procedures, develops quality control plans, and provides guidance and support to production personnel in the areas of problem solving, root cause analysis, and corrective action. The Quality Engineer also creates and maintains quality documentation, including process flow charts, control plans, and inspection and test reports.  Experience in the automotive industry, and knowledge of quality systems such as ISO/TS 16949, ISO 9001 and ISO14001.

Job Duties

  • Develop, implement, and maintain quality control systems and processes to ensure that products meet customer, suppliers, and industry standards.
  • Ensure that products are of the highest quality through process improvements, inspections, and testing.
  • Analyses and documents defects and feedback from customers and warranty data.
  • Develop and maintain quality assurance standards to ensure compliance with customer requirements.
  • Analyze and document production processes to identify areas of improvement.
  • Conduct required audits to verify product and process quality and capability.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to production personnel on quality control protocols and procedures.
  • Develop all process owner’s metrics and create dashboard reports.
  • Knowledge of PPAP, APQP, ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and IATF 16949.
  • Lead ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 audits.
  • ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 lead auditor.
  • Perform annual process owner audits per IATF 16949 requirements.
  • Proficient problem solving and root causes analysis using 8D corrective action.
  • Issue and lead corrective actions for all internal and external issues.
  • Experience in supplier development and monitoring.
  • Ability to perform process and equipment capability studies, Gage R and R, Equipment Validation, and other quality tasks as needed.
  • Knowledge in Minitab, Smartsheet, gage tracking software, and Microsoft office.
  • Technical writing, technical document review, and technical document auditing skills required.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects to meet deadlines.
  • Develop PFMEA, Control Plans, Turtle diagrams, and process flow charts.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Various related duties as needed by the business.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Some exposure to harsh conditions—such as: dust, fumes, noise, and varying temperatures—for short periods of time is possible. All employees are required to follow safety standards and wear all personal protective equipment in designated areas.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Sitting 70%, standing/walking 30%. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential function of this job.

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (such as Quality, Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering) preferred; or Bachelor’s degree in related field with progressive experience in quality roles working with suppliers

Minimum experience

  • 3 to 5 years of manufacturing experience in a quality, engineering, supply chain, or similar required
  • 3 or more years’ experience driving supplier quality development with strong planning, analysis, and problem resolution tools such as SPC, PAPP, and similar
  • Support the development and maintenance of the Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure compliance with standards, including ISO9001, ISO14001 and IATF 16949
  • Six Sigma, Quality Management
  • Must be skilled in the assessment of manufacturing processes, use of SPC, and use of personal computers with experience in Microsoft word processing, Microsoft Access database, Microsoft Excel and SAP systems
  • Ability to partner with internal and external resources in the areas of quality planning, corrective action and continuous improvement.
